保健外展傳譯服務 Health Advocacy
The Health Outreach Project has been considered as one of the busiest projects in the centre. This service provides health outreach advocacy and a wide range of health education programs to the Chinese community in Hackney
The most time consuming of all will be helping them find a GP as many of the patients will not have the necessary papers on them or are very hard to contact to arrange an appointment as their address keep changing.
Due to a significant increase of Chinese people from midland China moving into this country and settle in Hackney, the number of health advocacy/interpreting cases have been increasing again in the last 12 months. However, as the funding from the Health Authority are limited and only 1 full time worker is employed for this project, a lot of cases had to be re-booked or delayed. Health Authority should increase the funding in this area for the Chinese community so as to help us recruit more Chinese Health advocacy workers to deal with the current situation more effectively.
The worker is responsible for taking patients to medical appointments and to act as an advocate for the patients. Consequently, this enables the patients to convey their health problems, and therefore understand their illnesses and to acquire the appropriate medical cares accordingly. Furthermore, this provides the communication between the patients and the medical staffs; thus this is vital that the patients and the medical staffs are able to understand each other in order for the patients to be correctly diagnosed and to obtain the appropriate treatments. It is hope that through our project, we will be able to empower the Chinese patients to use the NHS services.
The main appointments were made up of GP appointments, dentists, opticians, health clinics and home visits.

Clients would be advised to adjust the new way of livings and to fit in with their new environmental conditions.
